At Cream Pie Studio, our approach to kitchen design is centered around optimizing space, enhancing functionality, and infusing character into the heart of every home. Drawing from our experience with three diverse projects in Singapore—our own studio kitchen and two residential projects in Bukit Timah and Upper Changi—this article explores the unique design strategies we employed to create kitchens that are both beautiful and practical.

Cream Pie Studio: A Compact Culinary Powerhouse
In our own studio kitchen, we faced the challenge of optimizing a very small, linear space. Despite the limitations, we successfully integrated essential appliances, including an induction cooktop, combi oven, dishwasher, and microwave, all while ensuring ample cabinet storage. The sintered stone Carrara Viola backsplash wall was introduced to add character and contrast against the monotone raw concrete finish of the surrounding walls. This feature not only elevates the aesthetic but also adds a tactile element to the space.
To enhance the ambiance, we installed two wall sconces against the backsplash, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The countertop is made of KompacPlus, a durable yet affordable material known for its resistance to wear and moisture, making it ideal for busy kitchens. This fully functional kitchen serves as the foundation for our daily lunches, reflecting our commitment to creating spaces that blend style and practicality.
Bukit Timah: Embracing Open-Concept Living
For our residential project in Bukit Timah, we transformed a traditional closed kitchen into an inviting open-concept space. The centerpiece of this design is a bulbous kitchen island that cleverly conceals a hidden wine fridge, offering both functionality and a touch of luxury. The large-format tile backsplash adds depth to the otherwise minimalistic space, enhancing the overall aesthetic with subtle texture.
This project showcases our studio’s ability to innovate within a clean and cohesive design framework. By opening up the kitchen, we improved the visual flow of the home, making it an ideal space for both socializing and cooking. The design encourages interaction, allowing the kitchen to become a central hub of the household.

Upper Changi: Revitalizing with Thoughtful Design
In our Upper Changi project, we focused on breathing new life into an existing kitchen layout. While the original structure remained unchanged, we revitalized the space with new joinery doors and an enlarged kitchen island. The updated island not only serves as a more functional centerpiece but also enhances the overall look and feel of the kitchen.
Once again, we opted for KompacPlus for the worktop, leveraging its durability and modern appeal. This project demonstrates our expertise in modernizing kitchens through thoughtful design choices, proving that even minor adjustments can have a significant impact on the space’s overall atmosphere.
Kitchen design is crucial in shaping the way we experience one of the most important spaces in our homes. At CP, we approach each project with a deep understanding of space optimization, design innovation, and the unique needs of our clients. Whether we’re working within compact dimensions, transforming layouts, or revitalizing existing designs, our goal is to create kitchens that are both aesthetically striking and highly functional—a place where people are inspired to spend time and enjoy the art of cooking.
